What is a BMU?
A building maintenance unit (BMU) is an automatic, remote-controlled, or mechanical device, usually suspended from the roof, which moves systematically over some surface of a structure while carrying human window washers or mechanical robots to maintain or clean the covered surfaces. BMUs are almost always positioned over the exterior of a structure, but can also be used on interior surfaces such as large ceilings (e.g. in stadiums or train stations) or atrium walls.
BMU’s are designed to provide safe and reliable access for high-rise buildings over 490 feet tall or for buildings with unique architectural features with difficult to access facades. Work platforms can be designed with live loads that support 2 or 3 workers. It is also possible to add a material hoist to the BMU for glass replacement or other material handling requirements.
Custom made BMU’s
It all starts with the design of the building. Situation, height, shape, materials used, customer’s wishes, they are all ingredients for our developers to work with. As every building is different so will be the final Building Maintenance Unit applied. That does not mean we will have to begin from scratch. Every particular BMU is a variation of other BMU’s built, adapted to a particular situation. Our many years of experience gives us a head start at developing the perfect Building Maintenance Unit for your building.
